"The Eternal Indian", by Lorado Taft, stands high on the bluff over looking the Rock River. At 50 feet tall it is the second largest concrete statue in the world. Taft intended it to honor all native Americans; however, it has come to be more closely associated with Chief Blackhawk who fought so hard to retain possession of his beautiful Rock River Valley. A young Abraham Lincoln also fought in the Blackhawk War as a Captain of the Illinois Militia.
